Zolon assisted the Department of Labor design team in converting the legacy Netscape servers to the new three-tier Apache WebSphere Application servers while providing all internet system architecture and webmaster support. Additionally, Zolon was the Enterprise Change Management gatekeeper for production. Using ClearCase and ClearQuest to provide life cycle management and control of software development assets, Zolon provided integrated version control, automated workspace management, baseline management, and build and release management.

Zolon developed various authentication services used by web applications of U.S. Department of Labor. The mechanisms varied from traditional user name/password authentications to LDAP and Kerberos authentications. A few applications were provided additional security with client certificate authentication as well as Digital certificates which verify the identity of the individuals or web servers before providing access.

Zolon supported the DOL network that transmits images and other data and connects 30 subordinate facilities. As the Tier 3 subject matter experts, Zolon resolved network architecture, security, and support issues. Zolon worked on developing monitoring tools that notified the DOL operations personnel about critical outages, thereby aiding in solving problems quickly and providing better service. Zolon also designed and created an enterprise monitoring tool (Employment Standards Administration Monitoring Tool) using MicroMuse NetCool. The tool monitors all network devices and databases around the country, and upon alert of a problem, will send an email to the correct group for immediate resolution.

Zolon provided the DOL with Internet System Architecture and Webmaster support including analysis, design, development, deployment and administrative functions for the three-tier architecture system. These activities included the installation and configuration of several Apache web servers and WebSphere application servers in compliance with J2EE standards. Our final production system was used by developers of various agencies of the Employment Standards Administration within the Department of Labor to develop and host their internet web applications.
